Walking up to one of our vending machines on your break, you are greeted by rows of snacks, chilled drinks and fresh coffee, all ready when you are and conveniently at your fingertips.

 

What you probably don’t see is the advanced technology, careful planning and intelligent systems in place, working behind the scenes. Also, most importantly, the amazing team of people who make it all happen.

 

Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes for a day in the life of one of our vending machine operators to show you what really goes into powering our machines and your snack time.

 

7 a.m.

 

The day starts bright and early at our Downton headquarters. The team is already getting ahead of the day before most people have even logged on. 

 

We don’t run on guesswork; preparation is everything. Before a van even leaves the yard, we’ve planned the entire route. Using live machine data, we can see exactly what each site needs, from individual snacks to bulk ingredients like fresh coffee beans and milk powder. That means no overloading, no wasted time and no missed refills once we’re on the road.

 

With the van loaded using pre-packed, site-specific stock, there’s just time for a quick coffee and a catch-up at HQ. Then it’s keys in, routes loaded, and off we go, using Vendmanager mobile to guide us along the most efficient route to our first stop.

 

8 a.m.

 

Snack & drink machines

 

We begin with a DTS (Data Transfer Standard) reading, synchronizing the machine with our handheld devices. Machines are restocked using pre-packed stock kits, so we only bring in exactly what’s needed. No bulky crates, no guesswork. We clear any technical errors and collect cash before moving on.

 

Coffee machines

 

These get a little extra care. Alongside topping up ingredients and taking data readings, we carry out a deep clean and maintenance check to make sure every cup tastes like perfection.

 

Wherever the route takes us, we focus on care, consistency and doing the job thoroughly every time.

 

2 p.m.

 

Once the route is complete, it’s back to Downton. The van is unloaded, returns are sorted, and everything is prepped for tomorrow. A final team debrief, and the day’s done.

 

Behind every well-run machine is an operator who knows it inside out. Our team uses smart data and modern tools to work efficiently, but it’s their care, experience, and pride in the job that keeps machines full, clean and reliable.
